Creative leaders on young hires, and whether or not schools are the best place to find them.
I had a conversation with a very successful man last night at one my my Management panel/speeches. My only question to him was: should I get my MBA now or later?
He said, “I am going to give you two answers- and they contradict each other. 1-of course! When I hire people I look for those who have a masters. 2- if you want to be an entrepreneur you don’t need to go learn how to climb the corporate ladder, because who wants to climb a ladder? Why a ladder? Go get out there and float around and make stuff, make things happen.”
Since I run the facebook page for the Lunch Pail Defense Foundation, I have been able to witness Facebook’s change in how ‘insights’ are shown. Insights allow us to see our progress within our Facebook attempts as well as how many each post reaches and who/how people interact. Facebook has always had a great way of breaking down the numbers of interactions, likes, and feedback, but now has taken it a step further to adding one’s ‘reach.’
Under ‘Reach” it is now broken down by gender, and by age. This allows us to see who we are best able to target through facebook, which market we need to focus on and the progress of our goals. Facebook will be switching over to this form of measurement fully by December of this year. The tables and graphs are much more detailed and there really is a science behind Facebook.
All insights can be downloaded to your computer into an excel spreadsheet with immense and detailed data.
If you ever get the chance to see the ‘insights’ on a company’s page, you should really take advantage in it. I (and probably Vaynerchuk) can see that in a few years there will be job positions made solely around this.
I found another Google Chrome commercial, this time using Justin Bieber! This is remarkable, considering youtube.com is how he caught his big break. I think Google is doing a great campaign! “The web is what you make of it.”
I think this is one of the best commercials this year. Lady Gaga for Google Chrome. Whether you are a Lady Gaga fan or not, this catches your attention. And Google did their research: She’s the most influential via twitter and combine that with this and Google Chrome was just heard all over the world.
Benetton launches another controversial campaign…this is one story you can not miss…read now, share, post and up my klout@
I LOVE BENETTON- and it’s because of stuff like this. Shocking, eye catching, and has an unmistakeable good purpose behind it.
Check this out! Something to think about?
I found this video of Bud Foster surfing on YouTube. We cannot forget that these are people just like us, even though in the sports world we see them as famous!
And he has talent!
Here it is, Hokies vs. Wahoo’s. Normally it’s not that big of a game but this year is a completely different story. We have the opportunity today to knock UVA out of the running and send ourselves to the ACC Championship. Let’s keep it up and make it 8 years in a row with the Commonwealth Cup.
Isn’t it amazing how much we love sports? I went to Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC for Thanksgiving break, and almost every time I wore my VT sweatshirt I would meet someone. Whether it was a ‘go Hokies!’ or a ‘go (insert a team other than the best:Hokies here)!’ the simple fact of having a sports logo on my chest opened up doors to meet other people.
Speaking of Starbucks Mugs! Check this out! A cool iphone app to go with your morning cup of Joe!
Each year Starbucks has a new holiday mug, and every year my mom buys one. I have always wanted to want a Starbucks mug- but I feel that they are so traditional and lacking in the sleekness and the modern personality that such a place encompasses. But this year, I finally found the perfect mug! And if you’re not a coffee drinker you just won’t understand the severity of having a good reliable coffee mug. It even comes with a lid for travel. It say’s fa-la-la-la all around it too.
